1. Our Commitment to Your Privacy

Blue Nation Technology Pty Ltd trading as Buckko Locks (ABN 70 142 528 916) ("we", "us", "our") is an Australian company committed to protecting the privacy of our customers and users.

This Privacy Policy governs how we collect, use, disclose, store, and protect your personal information when you use the Buckko Locks mobile application and website ("Services"). It is prepared in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).

By using our Services, you consent to the collection and use of your information as described in this policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of our Services.

3. Information We Collect (APP 3)

a) Account Information

When you register for a Buckko Locks account, we collect your email address or mobile phone number and an encrypted password. This information is required to provide our Services.

b) Sensitive Information — Biometric Data Sensitive

If you choose to enable biometric login (Face ID or fingerprint), your device's operating system processes this data locally. We do not collect, transmit, or store biometric data on our servers. This feature is entirely optional and requires your explicit consent. You may disable it at any time in the App under Settings → Biometric Login.

c) Smart Lock & Device Data

To provide lock management features, we collect:

  • Lock names, serial numbers, and model details
  • Battery status and firmware version
  • Gateway connectivity status and network identifiers
  • eKey configurations and sharing settings
  • Passcode records (stored in encrypted form)

d) Access Logs

The App records lock access events including who accessed the lock, when, and the method used (app, Bluetooth, passcode, eKey, or fingerprint reader). These records form your in-app activity history and are retained for up to 12 months.

e) Location & Bluetooth Data

The App requires Bluetooth access to communicate with nearby locks. On Android devices, Bluetooth scanning also requires location permission as mandated by the Android operating system. We use this solely to detect nearby locks — we do not track or store your physical location.

f) Device & Log Data

We may automatically collect technical information including:

  • Device type, operating system version, and unique device identifiers
  • App version and crash/error reports
  • Push notification tokens (Firebase Cloud Messaging token)
  • Network connection type (Wi-Fi, mobile data)

g) Usage Data

We collect anonymised, aggregated data about how users interact with the App to improve performance and user experience. This data cannot be used to identify you individually.

h) Website Data

When you visit buckkolocks.com.au, our web server automatically records standard access information including IP address, browser type, pages visited, and timestamps. This is used for security monitoring and website improvement. We may use cookies to store your preferences — you may disable cookies in your browser settings, though some website functionality may be affected.

4. Anonymity and Pseudonymity (APP 2)

Where it is lawful and practicable, we allow individuals to engage with us using a pseudonym or without identifying themselves (for example, general enquiries). However, due to the nature of smart lock access management — which requires verified account authentication for security purposes — full anonymity is not possible when using the core App features.

5. How and When We Collect Your Information (APP 5)

We collect personal information:

  • Directly from you — when you register, configure locks, share access, or contact our support team
  • Automatically — through your use of the App (access logs, device tokens, usage data)
  • From third-party services — via TTLock cloud when syncing lock data or via Google Firebase when delivering notifications

We will notify you of the purpose of collection at or before the time of collection. If we collect your information from a third party, we will take reasonable steps to ensure you are aware.

6. How We Use Your Information (APP 6)

We use your personal information for the following primary purposes:

  • Creating and managing your Buckko Locks account
  • Authenticating your identity and securing access to your locks
  • Enabling lock management, eKey sharing, passcode creation, and access history
  • Delivering push notifications and service alerts
  • Responding to your support requests and inquiries
  • Diagnosing technical issues and improving App performance
  • Complying with our legal and regulatory obligations

We will not use your personal information for a purpose other than the primary purpose of collection without your consent, unless otherwise permitted by the Privacy Act.

7. Direct Marketing (APP 7)

We may use your contact information to send you service updates, new feature announcements, and relevant product information. We will not use sensitive information (including biometric data) for direct marketing.

You may opt out of marketing communications at any time by:

  • Clicking "Unsubscribe" in any marketing email we send
  • Contacting us at support@buckkolocks.com.au

We will action opt-out requests promptly and at no cost to you.

8. Disclosure to Third Parties (APP 6)

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We may share your data with:

  • Smart lock hardware providers — solely to enable core lock functionality
  • Service providers — who assist in operating the App, bound by confidentiality obligations and required to handle data consistently with this policy
  • Professional advisers — including legal, financial, and technical consultants, under appropriate confidentiality obligations
  • Law enforcement and regulatory authorities — where required by Australian law or court order
  • Successors in business — in the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this policy continuing to apply

9. Overseas Disclosure of Personal Information (APP 8)

⚠️ Important Notice: Your personal information is disclosed to overseas recipients as part of delivering our Services. Please read this section carefully.

By using the Buckko Locks App, you acknowledge that your personal information will be transferred to and processed by the following overseas entities:

Sciener Smart Technology Co., Ltd (TTLock)

Location: People's Republic of China
Data transferred: Account information, lock data, access logs, eKeys, passcodes, and gateway details
Purpose: Core smart lock cloud infrastructure
Their privacy policy: www.ttlock.com

Google LLC (Firebase Cloud Messaging & Analytics)

Location: United States of America
Data transferred: Device push notification tokens, anonymised usage analytics
Purpose: Delivering push notifications and app analytics

Under APP 8, we take reasonable steps to ensure overseas recipients handle your information consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles. However, you acknowledge that once your information is disclosed to an overseas recipient, the Australian Privacy Act may not govern how that recipient handles your information, and you may have limited ability to seek redress under Australian law.

By continuing to use our Services, you expressly consent to this overseas disclosure as described above.

10. Data Quality (APP 10)

We take reasonable steps to ensure your personal information is accurate, up-to-date, complete, and relevant for the purposes for which it is used. You can update your account information at any time within the App or by contacting our support team.

11. Data Security (APP 11)

We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and physical security measures to protect your personal information from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access, modification, or disclosure. Our security measures include:

  • AES 256-bit encryption for stored passwords
  • TLS/HTTPS encryption for all data in transit between the App and our servers
  • Secure credential storage using iOS Keychain and Android Keystore
  • Biometric data processed exclusively on your device — never transmitted to our servers or any third party
  • Access controls limiting data access to authorised personnel only

While we take all reasonable precautions, no method of transmitting or storing data over the internet can be guaranteed to be 100% secure.

In the event of a data breach likely to result in serious harm to affected individuals, we will notify those individuals and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) in accordance with our obligations under the Notifiable Data Breaches (NDB) scheme (Part IIIC of the Privacy Act 1988).

12. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as reasonably necessary to provide our Services. Specific retention periods:

  • Account information: Retained until account deletion is requested
  • Access logs: Up to 12 months, then automatically deleted
  • Usage analytics: Anonymised and retained indefinitely for statistical purposes
  • Support communications: Up to 3 years for legal and quality purposes

When personal information is no longer required, we take reasonable steps to destroy or permanently de-identify it securely.

13. Access to Your Personal Information (APP 12)

You have the right to request access to the personal information we hold about you. To make a request:

  • Email us at support@buckkolocks.com.au with the subject line "Privacy Access Request"
  • We will acknowledge your request within 5 business days and respond in full within 30 days

We may charge a reasonable fee to cover the cost of providing access. We may refuse access in limited circumstances permitted by the Privacy Act, in which case we will provide written reasons and advise you of available complaint options.

14. Correction of Personal Information (APP 13)

If you believe personal information we hold about you is inaccurate, out-of-date, incomplete, irrelevant, or misleading, you may request a correction. We will respond within 30 days. If we decline to make the correction, we will provide written reasons and advise you of available next steps, including your right to complain to the OAIC.

15. Children's Privacy

Our Services are not directed to children under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors. If we become aware that a child under 18 has provided us with personal information without parental consent, we will take prompt steps to delete that information. If you believe a minor has provided us with their information, please contact us immediately.

16. Links to Third-Party Websites

Our App and website may contain links to third-party websites and services (such as Alexa, Google Home, and TTLock). These third parties have their own privacy policies, and we are not responsible for their privacy practices. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party services you use.

17. How to Make a Privacy Complaint (APP 1)

If you believe we have breached the Australian Privacy Principles or otherwise mishandled your personal information, you may lodge a complaint as follows:

  • Step 1: Contact our Privacy Officer at support@buckkolocks.com.au with the subject line "Privacy Complaint". We will acknowledge within 5 business days and respond in full within 30 days.

18. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, or legal requirements. We will notify you of material changes via the App or by email at least 14 days before they take effect. The most current version will always be available at buckkolocks.com.au/privacy.html. Continued use of our Services after the effective date of any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
